Our Background
Municipality of Kariba is located in Kariba town (Mashonaland West Province) at the shores of Lake Kariba with its dam wall forming the border with Zambia. According to the 2012 Population Census, the town had a population of 27 000. The town was established to house workers who were constructing the dam in the mid to late 1950s. Located in the Zambezi Valley, Kariba benefits from a warm climate during the whole year.
Kariba is one of the major tourist destinations in Zimbabwe and its hospitality industry consists of hotels, lodges, camp sites, chalets, craft markets, the magnificent curvature Kariba Dam Wall, game parks, Operational Noah and Saint Barbara Church monuments. Most of the attractions in Kariba for the tourist are water-based: Fishing, game-viewing and house-boating are the most popular activities. A visit to the Kariba Dam wall is also impressive along with a visit to the crocodile farm. Besides tourism and fishing, other important industries are crocodile farming and electricity-production for the country.
Kariba has three main suburbs: The high density areas of Mahombekombe and Nyamhunga as well as Kariba Heights, which is located on a hill and the views of Lake Kariba from the Heights are fantastic
